A meditative film visualizing a lotus’s dream of heaven.
Tools
Houdini, Maya, Redshift, Substance Painter, Midjourney
Lotus Dream is my thesis film, developed during my MFA in Animation and Digital Arts at USC. It is a non-narrative, meditative piece centered on the rhythm of a lotus’s everyday cycle. Each morning, the lotus rises from the water, and each evening, it retreats back beneath the surface. I became interested in imagining a daydream that breaks from this quiet repetition. Rather than telling a linear story, the film unfolds as a dream sequence guided by mood, music, and atmosphere. I worked closely with composer Casey Mattson to create a sense of stillness and wonder.

Lotus Dream Beat Board - Midjourney
Midjourney played a key role in the previsualization of the film, allowing me to quickly explore and iterate on imagery while shaping the surreal dream world through an improvisational process.

Lotus Dream posed many technical challenges for me and was my first film made primarily in Houdini. In order to create a world that felt expansive and and dreamlike, I developed the environments procedurally, allowing me to build and iterate on a surreal landscape that could evolve with the emotional tone of the film.
